Las cenizas del novelista portugués José Saramago fueron depositadas este sábado al pie de un olivo centenario, traído de su pueblo natal de Azinhaga do Ribatejo (centro) y transplantado en una plaza de Lisboa, al cumplirse el primer aniversario de su muerte.
Los restos del Premio Nobel del Literatura 1998, fallecido en la isla española de Lanzarote a los 87 años, descansarán frente a la “Casa dos Bicos”, sede de la Fundación José Saramago, que abrirá sus puertas en noviembre en la plaza lisboeta Campo das Cebolas, a orillas del río Tajo.
En presencia de su viuda y traductora, la española Pilar del Río, de numerosas personalidades del mundo de la cultura y la política así como de admiradores, la ceremonia culminó los homenajes rendidos estos días al autor de “El evangelio según Jesucristo”, “La Caverna” o el “Ensayo sobre la ceguera”, entre otras novelas.
Una novela inédita que Saramago terminó de escribir en 1953 pero que no quiso publicar en vida saldrá a la luz en Portugal a finales de año, anunció esta semana su editor.
