El Palacio de Buckingham dijo que Guillermo es ahora su alteza real el duque de Cambridge, y que Catherine Middleton es su alteza real duquesa de Cambridge.
Guillermo también fue nombrado conde de Strathearn y barón de Carrickfergus, lo que significa que al casarse con él Middleton pasó a ser condesa de Strathearn y baronesa de Carrickfergus.
Strathearn vincula a Guillermo y Middleton con Escocia, donde la pareja se conoció y se enamoró. El barón de Carrickfergus es un título poco usado que se refiere a uno de los pueblos más viejos en Irlanda del Norte.
Los tres títulos fueron otorgados por la abuela de Guillermo, la reina Isabel, en oca-sión del matrimonio del príncipe, y anunciados el viernes vía Twitter, por correo electró-nico y en el portal de la boda real en Internet.
Como Middleton no es miembro de la realeza por nacimiento, no se convertirá ofi-cialmente en la princesa Catherine _ aunque el público pudiera decidir llamarla así, o princesa Kate.
Observadores de la realeza dijeron que el otorgamiento del título de duque de Cam-bridge es un indicio de estima personal de la reina. Se refiere a la histórica ciudad univer-sitaria que es símbolo del prestigio británico. La historia del ducado data del medioevo y por 300 años ha estado asociada a la realeza.
